Tram Latest

A letter from Mr Murphy about the tramways was read out at the Council meeting on 15 November. He talked of the delay caused by the legal action taken by Councillor Bray to set aside arrangements made with the Corporation, and of his latent proposal for the front line between the Memorial and Grosvenor Gardens. The News said this was sacred ground, encroaching on the gold mine of the Omnibus Company. The way-leave which Murphy would pay for the Front Line would be a substantial help to the rates. An application was intended to be made to Parliament by the Hastings Tramways Company to bring in a bill to lay down and maintain the extension tramway. Also at the meeting: A proposal to spend about £200 on paving Kings Road met no opposition.
